Dear Arriela

This is for Arriela- letters from your family.

The last time we saw you was November 1, 2024. While we explained what was happening and said what we needed to say, it was clear that you did not entirely understand what it all meant.

While we hope this is a temporary separation, life has unfolded in a way we didn’t foresee.

No matter what you hear, please know this: you are deeply loved and missed daily. We always think of you and will always be a part of our lives.

This space is for sharing our thoughts, wishes, and memories of you as we look forward to the day we’re reunited. Until then, we’ll be here, celebrating and holding you close.

Your family.

Christmas Tree is Up Before Thanksgiving

November 26, 2024:

Grandpa Ted put up the tree today – two days before Thanksgiving. It seems early this year since Thanksgiving is so “late,” but we are less than a month away from Christmas.

He had to help me decorate since you were not here to help me this time. I didn’t even take out all those ornaments you and I would put up because Grandpa isn’t as impressed with the various ornaments as you are.

Hopefully, we will still see you before next Christmas, even if you won’t be with us for/on Christmas next year.

You were supposed to be with your Dad and Ashley for Thanksgiving this year. Nana Pamma, Grandpa Frank, Uncle Lee, and Uncle Cris are coming. Nana Pamma asked how we could get you a gift, but we don’t know how to send it. We don’t know your address or whether you would receive it even if it were sent.

Last week, Grandpa Ted said something about what we would get you for Christmas. We had some ideas, but it is hard to know what to get since we don’t know when we will see you. It is one thing if we will see you in a few months, but what if it is a few years? Or longer? We hope not, but it would seem strange if we got you a gift for your almost 11-year-old self, but finally got it to you when you are older.

We will miss you for Thanksgiving – the pups miss you too.

Love, Nana Shelley
